This residence is a sensitive addition to an existing rural log compound. A new, more modern interpretation of the style of the existing flanking log home and log garage was used for the structure that links them, which contains the core elements of the compound – kitchen, dining, living, and family bedrooms upstairs. Energy efficiency, recycled green materials and sustainability drove decisions on this project. Reclaimed timber framing, intricate log joinery and local limestone are used to form a core element counterpoint to more modern materials and expressions.
Note: this project was completed with Marc Asmus’ first co-founded architecture firm, Y+A Architecture.
