In this residence for an eye surgeon, International Style Modernism is adapted to express the mechanisms and anatomy of the human eye. The style also accommodates the methodology of the construction techniques and energy saving strategies employed. A 4-story oculus centers the plan and brings light to the core of the home. Light regulating devices from moveable screens to carefully framed views of the landscape refer light and activities to the ocular core. The home is constructed entirely of super-insulated precast concrete planks and panels on a recycled steel framework. It also features geothermal heating and cooling and high-efficiency glass.
